The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has named Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams as the world's best male and female tennis players of 2012.

Novak Djokovic

This is the second consecutive year that Djokovic has been awarded this prestigious title by the ITF, and for Serena Williams, this is the third time in her career that she has been honored by the ITF. Although she has not won every battle, this year is still a "harvest season" for Serena Williams.

She won seven different tournaments, including the Charleston Open, Madrid WTA, Wimbledon, US Open, Stanford Open, Masters Cup WTA and Olympic gold medal at London. Although currently ranked third in the WTA rankings, Serena has defeated most of the top 10 female players in the world.

Similarly, although Djokovic this year did not make waves in the tennis world like in the first 9 months of 2011, he still played very consistently. Nole reached the finals of 3 Grand Slam tournaments: Australian Open, Roland Garros and US Open. Of the 18 tournaments he participated in, he reached at least the semi-finals in 16, of which he won 6: Australian Open, Miami Open, China Open, Toronto Masters, Shanghai Masters and ATP Masters Cup.
