Ho Chi Minh City: Miserable as the tide is rising to its peak

October 18, 2012 06:57

Around October 17 and 16, a tidal surge of 1.59 m (measured at Phu An station) along with sudden heavy rain caused dozens of streets in Ho Chi Minh City to be severely flooded.

Traffic during rush hour is difficult for people. However, this situation will be more serious tomorrow when the forecasted high tide reaches a historical peak of 1.60m (November 2011).

Below are images recorded from about 5-7pm on the same day on Tran Hung Dao, Hoc Lac, Hong Bang, Hau Giang streets (District 5), Kinh Duong Vuong street (Binh Tan district), Luong Dinh Cua (District 2) and streets in Hiep Binh Chanh ward, Thu Duc district.

Heavy rain during rush hour on the afternoon of October 16 caused the tide to rise earlier than expected.

This image will recur for 3 consecutive days because the tide continuously exceeds alert level 3.

Many families have to hang hammocks instead of beds to sleep.
