Nghe An College of Economics and Technology is a public institution established under Decision No. 483/QD.BGD&DT of the Minister of Education and Training, based on the upgrading of Nghe An Vocational School of Economics and Technology. Currently, the school is preparing the necessary conditions to be upgraded to a university.

The current Nghe An College of Economics and Technology is the result of the merger of the following schools: Finance, Planning, Statistics, Commerce, Food Service, Agriculture and Forestry, Irrigation, Local Industry, and Economic Management of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces. The school's establishment is closely linked to the historical periods of the country and the training needs of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces in economic fields, contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
The institution currently has 165 lecturers, including 3 PhDs, 95 Master's degree holders, 85 Bachelor's degree holders, and 10 doctoral candidates. Its main mission is to train and educate personnel at the college level and lower levels in the fields of economics, finance, agricultural and forestry engineering, irrigation, forest product preservation and processing, and scientific research. Annually, the college trains between 5,500 and 7,510 students, making it the college with the largest number of students.

With 7 regular college-level training programs and 10 vocational training programs, the school meets the diverse learning needs of students and the recruitment needs of economic entities. The Accounting and Analysis Department trains students in corporate accounting, commercial accounting, and public sector accounting; the Finance and Management Department trains students in corporate finance and business administration; the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Department trains students in forestry, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, crop science, land surveying, and irrigation… In addition, the school has a Computer Center, a Foreign Language Center, a Basic Sciences Department, and a Political Theory Department… The school also trains personnel for Laos, collaborates with schools in districts throughout the province and in Central Vietnam; and researches and applies accounting and financial software in its training programs.

Graduates from Nghe An College of Economics and Technology are capable of mastering the financial and accounting regulations issued by the State, possessing knowledge of auditing and accounting in all types of businesses, in-depth knowledge of analyzing, valuing, and predicting stock market trends, planning business strategies and policies, organizing business operations and establishing new businesses, as well as knowledge of agriculture, forestry, and irrigation... to serve their professions.
To prepare for university admission, the school's principal, Dr. Duong Xuan Thao, stated: “Nghe An College of Economics and Technology has a campus of nearly 4.7 hectares in Block 12, Ha Huy Tap Ward, Vinh City. The school is currently applying for 20 hectares of land in Nghi Kim, Vinh City. The school has 5 three-story buildings, including 1 for the administrative staff, 4 classrooms for students, and 1 four-story dormitory. There is a sports area of over 1 hectare, an electronic library worth 3 billion VND, 3 computer and accounting classrooms with 300 computers, a center for computer and foreign language training and short-term training, a practice garden and 2 laboratories for agricultural and forestry students, 2 virtual accounting practice rooms, a canteen, and a dining hall. The school is currently building a 7-story student dormitory with 35 classrooms worth 60 billion VND. This is after 52 years of striving.” As the school matured, it was awarded the First Class Labor Medal, the Second Class Labor Medal (in 2005), the emulation flag of the Ministry of Education and Training, and many other titles from the Ministry, the Provincial People's Committee, etc.
The school has a total of 200 staff members, of which more than two-thirds hold a university degree or higher. The school has contributed human resources to agencies, businesses, and departments in the province. Many of its graduates have risen to hold important positions in the province: 3 vice-chairmen of the province, 2 directors of departments, and many district chairmen… Since 2010, the school has been developing a plan to establish a university based on Decision 121/2007/QD/TTg of the Prime Minister approving the network of universities and colleges for the period 2006-2020. Currently, the Departments and Bureaus of the Ministry of Education and Training have completed the first phase of assessment to prepare for upgrading to a university.
The journey ahead for Nghe An College of Economics and Technology is unfolding with many opportunities and challenges. Therefore, more than ever, teachers and students are striving to better meet the needs of society, while also preparing thoroughly for teaching and learning when the school is upgraded to a university.
