Speaking at the launching ceremony in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that Iran has now achieved independence in the defense sector and can now meet all the country's defense requirements.

"Since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution (1979), we have learned not to ask for assistance from other countries, but to stand on our own feet... Thanks to the Islamic Revolution, Iran has mastered the technology of building submarines. No one believed that Iran would reach the level of building destroyers capable of carrying helicopters and armed with missiles in the Sea of Oman and other seas," Mr. Sayyari said.

According to Press TV, the Ghadir-class submarine was first introduced by Iran in 2007. This 120-ton submarine has operated in both deep and shallow waters and can conduct long-term coastal missions./.
