Loquat tree cures dysentery and asthma
The Elaegagnus latifolia L. tree belongs to the Elaeagnaceae family, other names are Ho Doi Tu, Tay people call it Lot, Bat Xa.
Many parts of the jujube tree are used as medicine according to folk experience such as leaves (mainly), fruit, roots, and even the parasitic mistletoe that lives on the tree.
People in some places often take 20-30g of fresh loquat leaves or 6-12g of dried leaves, cut into small pieces, fry until golden brown, boil with 400ml of water until 100ml remains, drink twice a day to treat dysentery caused by bacilli and diarrhea syndrome. Can be used in powder form or cooked into pills. This experience has been verified by domestic scientists to show that loquat leaf preparations have antibacterial effects that strongly inhibit the growth of strains of Shigella shigae, S.flexneri, S. sonnei and S. dysenteriae type 3. This effect is due to the high content of tannin in loquat leaves along with saponin and polyphenol. At the same time, the drug also has the effect of limiting acute and chronic inflammation. Use loquat leaves alone or in combination with the bark of the tree Chan Danh (Do Trong Nam) in equal doses. Along with the above effects, dried loquat leaves, purslane, Eclipta prostrata, large-leafed milkweed, guava buds (10g each) are crushed, sifted into fine powder or made into pills. Take 2-3 times a day, 15g each time.
To treat asthma, you can use the following remedies with loquat leaves:
- 50g fresh loquat leaves, wash, crush, add a little water, filter and drink with 4g of burned soft-shelled turtle shell powder (Nam Duoc Than Hieu).
- Dry loquat leaves, grind into powder, drink 6-12g each time with rice water.
- 30g dried loquat leaves, 20g cotton leaves. Dry loquat leaves, crush them, and sift them into fine powder. Clean the cotton leaves of their hair several times by using a hard brush to lightly brush both sides of the leaves on a tray placed in a basin of water or by heating the leaves back and forth over a fire until all the hair is burned off, then chop them into small pieces, dry them, soak them in honey, dry them, or soak them in ginger water, roast them until golden brown, bury them in the ground, and then grind them into fine powder. Mix the two powders well, boil them with water, add sugar, and drink 2-3 times a day. Should be drunk away from meals. The decoction tastes bitter and fishy. Drinking it can cause tired limbs, body aches, and diarrhea, but this is mild and rare.
Loquat fruit has the same effect as loquat leaves. Use 5-7 green fruits per day, dry, chop, then boil and drink.
Loquat roots are effective in treating hemoptysis, sore throat, and difficulty swallowing. Dosage is 30g per day, decocted and drunk. For external use, dry loquat roots, slice them, boil water to bathe and treat boils and scabies.
Mistletoe living on the loquat tree is also used as astringent and to treat diarrhea in the form of a decoction with the same dosage as loquat leaves.
