UNSC to announce sanctions against North Korea
According to Kyodo, Yonhap news agency reported on January 17 from Washington (USA) citing several diplomatic sources that there has been "significant progress" in the United Nations Security Council's discussion to reach consensus on sanctions against North Korea related to the satellite-carrying rocket launch that is accused of violating the Security Council's resolution.

"It is true that there has been significant progress in the discussions at the Security Council. Security Council members are working to conclude consultations. There is a general understanding that the UN needs to first impose sanctions to move to the next stage of forcing North Korea to dialogue," a diplomatic source said.

The Security Council is expected to announce sanctions against North Korea this week, but it is likely to be a presidential statement rather than a new resolution, according to a source familiar with the matter in Moscow./.
