Opening of the 2013 National Science and Technology Competition for High School Students

On the morning of March 20, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of Education and Training officially opened the 2013 National Science and Technology Competition for high school students in the Southern region.



Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien delivered the opening speech.

The 2013 National Science and Technology Competition for High School Students in Ho Chi Minh City this year attracted 47 scientific research projects, belonging to 17 groups of fields by nearly 200 teachers and students from 11 provinces and cities in the region. Among them, many research projects of students are highly applicable and can be applied immediately in social life. Specifically: The project of Energy from exhaust pipes by a group of students from Ho Chi Minh City Gifted High School, the project of Making soap from waste oil by a group of students from Gia Dinh High School, the project of Solar-powered bicycles by a group of students from Nguyen Trai Secondary School (Dong Nai)... The practicality and high applicability of the above projects are highly appreciated by many people because of their feasibility in application, helping to improve the environment, reduce labor for workers and difficulties for people with disabilities.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien said: The organization of the 2013 National Science and Technology Competition for High School Students, in addition to providing high school students with a new form of learning, helping them to be creative, express their passion for scientific research... is also an opportunity for students and teachers to have cultural and educational exchanges. The competition also contributes to promoting innovation in learning methods, developing students' capacity, creating conditions for them to be able to apply the knowledge they have learned to solve practical problems in life. Although it has only been organized since 2012, the fact that Vietnam has won a first prize in the recent world-class science research competition for students proves certain successes, affirming the innovation in general education.

The competition will end and awards will be given to highly creative and applicable research projects on the afternoon of March 21.
