(Baonghean) - National Highway 48C starts from Sang Le intersection in Tam Hop commune, Quy Hop district to the end point intersecting with National Highway 7 in Tam Quan commune, Tuong Duong district with a total length of more than 123km, was named by the Ministry of Transport in early 2011 and assigned to the Vietnam Road Administration for management, operation and maintenance.
This national highway runs through 8 communes of Quy Hop district, namely Tam Hop, Tho Hop, Quy Hop town, Chau Quang, Chau Thai, Chau Ly, Bac Son and Nam Son with a total length of more than 40km. It is difficult to describe the joy of the people when this route was put into use to promote economic development and ensure national defense and security. However, the sad reality is that the National Highway 48C traffic safety corridor is being encroached upon widely.
Currently, there are about 30 households living on both sides of the road who have opened their own stalls right on the traffic safety corridor to do business. Not only do they open fixed stalls selling groceries, food, gasoline, and car washes, but there are also people bringing in farmed products such as vegetables, fish, chicken, etc. Buyers and sellers of motorbikes and bicycles occupy the entire roadway, causing traffic obstruction. Faced with this situation, the local authorities of the communes on this national highway have also promoted and mobilized, but have not handled it in a timely manner, so the violations are increasing.
According to Mr. Vi Quat Khoi, Vice Chairman of Chau Thai Commune: The locality has coordinated with functional agencies such as the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Transport, to propagate and mobilize the majority of households to comply well. Currently, among the 140 households living on both sides of the road, there are still some households violating the law.
Not only Chau Thai commune but also most of the 8 communes that National Highway 48C runs through, households living on both sides of the road encroach and violate the traffic safety corridor. Every time there is a surge, the localities also organize to clear the area, but due to the poor sense of responsibility of the people, after a short time everything goes back to the way it was.
Due to serious violations of traffic safety corridors, although this route has just been put into operation, many traffic accidents have occurred, killing and injuring dozens of people. It is thought that the management unit and local authorities need to have strong solutions to restore traffic safety order on the new national highway.
