On April 3rd, the 9th Asia-Pacific Burn Conference, themed “Challenges in Comprehensive Burn Treatment,” organized by the Le Huu Trac National Burn Institute in collaboration with the Vietnam Burn Association, officially opened in Hanoi.
The conference was attended by nearly 500 delegates, including leading scientists in the fields of burns, wound healing, and plastic surgery from Vietnam and around the world.

“The 9th Asia-Pacific Burn Conference, held in Vietnam, demonstrates the deep trust of the Asia-Pacific Burn Society in the Vietnam Burn Society and the development of this specialty in our country. This is an opportunity for scientists from Vietnam and abroad to interact, exchange, and update the latest knowledge on the burn specialty. Through the Conference, Vietnam will introduce and promote the scientific and technical achievements of the Vietnamese burn specialty to scientists in the region; and at the same time affirm the role and position of the Vietnam Burn Society as a member of the Asia-Pacific Burn Society,” emphasized Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen.
At the conference, Major General Le Nam, Director of the Le Huu Trac National Burn Institute, stated: The Asia-Pacific Burn Conference is held every two years. Since its establishment and through eight conferences, the burn sector in the Asia-Pacific region has made significant progress, particularly in the areas of intensive care, reconstructive surgery, rehabilitation, skin replacement materials, community reintegration, and the quality of life of burn patients. However, comprehensive care and the prevention of burn infections and intoxications still face many challenges. In particular, the phenomenon of bacteria in burns becoming resistant to almost all antibiotics, and the ineffectiveness of traditional topical treatments, poses major challenges in treatment.
Furthermore, the level of burn treatment varies significantly among countries in the Asia-Pacific region and globally. Many issues related to burns are still subject to differing opinions and have not been thoroughly discussed. Therefore, this conference provides an opportunity for burn specialists to discuss, exchange experiences, and learn from each other to improve the quality of treatment for burn patients.
The conference took place over three days (April 3-5) with 127 scientific reports presented; including 91 reports from foreign experts focusing on the following areas: burn epidemiology; burn disaster emergency care; new advances in the treatment of severe burns, respiratory burns, nutritional immunology, burn surgery, and topical skin replacement materials for burn treatment; nursing care and rehabilitation during and after burns; reconstructive and cosmetic surgery for patients with burn sequelae, post-traumatic sequelae, and surgical sequelae; research in wound healing, tissue technology, cell technology, and stem cells; and research in other related specialties.../.
