Brazil 2-2 England: Magic tricks on Brazilian soil.

June 3, 2013 10:18

The score was 2-2, but considering the spectacular plays, England would have won 2-1. Brazil has every right to be dissatisfied after a match where their performance was only a quarter of their opponents'.

Brazil were unable to celebrate a victory despite scoring first.

Goal:
Brazil:
Fred 57', Paulinho 83'
Older brother:Chamberlain 68', Rooney 79'.

From the start, Brazil easily dominated the game with the technique and speed of their midfield, especially since the intentions of the two teams were completely opposite: England fielded three out of five defensive midfielders – Jones, Carrick, and Milner – while Brazil played with three true forwards and an attacking midfielder, Oscar, providing support from behind.

In the first half, Brazil had as many as 20 attempts on goal and inside England's penalty area.

But of those 20 shots, one-third were saved by goalkeeper Joe Hart, and the remaining two-thirds went wide on a day when Europe's most expensive strikers were out of form.Ātaand Hulk. This was a half where the only thing that generated excitement for the audience was the movement and finishing of the Neymar-Oscar duo. Unfortunately, they were faced with an outstanding Joe Hart: he corrected the mistakes of the entire shaky visiting defense.

Things only really started to get exciting in the second half, when Fred opened the scoring for the home team in the 57th minute. From a shot by Hernanes that hit the post, Fred pounced on the rebound to score the first goal of the match.

From that point on, England attacked more frequently. There were consecutive chances for Milner, Rooney, and finally a magnificent equalizer from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Oxlade-Chamberlain's shot from over 20 yards prompted the Eurosport commentator to exclaim: "Magical finish!"

The magic continued in the 79th minute, from the feet ofWayne RooneyReceiving a pass from Milner, the Manchester United striker unleashed a shot from an even greater distance than Oxlade-Chamberlain's, the ball arcing straight into the home team's net. Many Englishmen had reason to believe they had successfully "avenged" Ronaldinho's spectacular goal against David Seaman in 2002.

Brazil also displayed a bit of magic, with Paulinho's equalizer in the 83rd minute, a quick and precise volley that made it 2-2. However, in terms of effectiveness, they were comprehensively outplayed by a Three Lions side that played a more controlled game but still managed to score the necessary goals: Brazil had 31 shots, with only 11 on target and 2 goals scored. Meanwhile, the visitors needed only 7 shots to achieve the same number of goals. Clearly, coach Scolari has a lot of work to do with his attack if he wants to win the World Cup on home soil.
