Winning Rome Masters, Rafael Nadal returns to top 4

May 20, 2013 17:51

Defeating Roger Federer to win the Rome Masters, Rafael Nadal has officially regained fourth place in the ATP rankings from compatriot David Ferrer.

With the 1,000 bonus points, Nadal has kept his 6,895 points on the ATP rankings from last week, while David Ferrer was deducted 180 points for only reaching the quarterfinals (last year Ferrer reached the semi-finals and had 360 points), so he only has 6,740 points.

Thus, the "King of Clay" will certainly be ranked in the top seed group at Roland Garros - the second most prestigious Grand Slam tournament of the year. This means he will only have to face the top 3 in the semi-finals.

At Roland Garros 2013 (taking place from May 26 to June 9), Rafael Nadal will participate as the defending champion. Since 2005, the former Spanish world number 1 has won a total of 7 championships at this tournament.

With the Rome Masters title, Nadal has won a total of 6 titles in the 8 finals he has participated in this season. The six titles Nadal has won include Sao Paulo (Brazil), Acapulco (Mexico), Indian Wells Masters, Barcelona Open, Madrid Open and Rome Masters.

Nadal's next target will be Roland Garros.

Not only that, Rafael Nadal also extended the new record of world men's tennis - 24 Masters 1000 titles (the most prestigious after Grand Slam) and the 54th ATP title of his career.

This is truly an unbelievable achievement because 7 months before his return, Nadal had to fight a persistent knee injury. He himself did not think that he would have such a great achievement.

"If you told me four or five months ago that I would have six titles in eight tournaments, I would have said you were crazy. But three Master 1000 titles and two Master 500 titles are something I never dreamed of."

"All I can say at this moment is thank you to all the fans and my colleagues. I don't want to think about Roland Garros at the moment. I want to enjoy this sweet moment a little longer."/.
