(Baonghean) -At 2:30 p.m. on April 22, a forest fire broke out in the La Hy Pass area of Hung Phu Commune, Nam Dong District, Thua Thien Hue Province. Upon receiving news of the fire, 21 officers and soldiers of the Nam Dong Military Command, fully equipped with forest fire fighting equipment, immediately arrived at the scene.

Despite the heat of nearly 40 degrees Celsius and strong winds, 21 officers and soldiers of the Nam Dong Military Command and other forces still bravely faced the fierce fire to extinguish the fire. Major Nguyen Tan Ngai, Battalion Commander of the Nam Dong Military Command's reserve battalion, directly commanded the firefighting troops to rush in and control the fire at the most dangerous place.

Major Nguyen Tan Ngai commanded the troops to divide into 3 directions to both extinguish the fire and create a firebreak to isolate the fire. At the highest point of the fire, the fire was raging and the wind kept changing direction. Major Nguyen Tan Ngai directly commanded the troops to extinguish the fire in this direction. While extinguishing the fire himself, he observed the wind direction to order the troops to avoid the fire from hitting them. When the fire at the most dangerous place was gradually being controlled, the wind suddenly changed direction, bringing a thick layer of smoke and dust to the direction where Major Nguyen Tan Ngai had just extinguished the fire. In the danger, Mr. Ngai only had time to use his hands to push his 2 teammates back while he fell down and suffocated from the smoke. He received first aid from his teammates on the spot and was treated wholeheartedly by doctors and nurses at Nam Dong District Medical Center and Hue Central Hospital, but due to focusing all his energy on extinguishing the fire and suffocating from the smoke, he did not survive.

Major Nguyen Tan Ngai.

Major Nguyen Tan Ngai was born on November 4, 1972 in the rice fields of Van Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district (Nghe An). He worked at the District Military Command and has been attached to Nam Dong land since 1991. Before his death, he was in the process of being proposed to take on the position of Deputy Commander of the Nam Dong District Military Command.

With infinite regret when talking about Major Nguyen Tan Ngai, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Thanh, Commander of the Nam Dong District Military Command said: Major Nguyen Tan Ngai was an officer who was always exemplary in his work. Whenever natural disasters, storms, floods, fires, etc. occurred in Nam Dong district, Major Ngai always volunteered to go first to the most dangerous places to help people save people and property. In daily life, Major Ngai was also very good at carpentry and masonry, so when people around the area where his family lived in Huong Hoa commune, Nam Dong district asked for his help, he was very willing and spent his whole day off to help people.
