1,494 students participated in the national math competition on handheld calculators.
On March 23 and 24, 2013, the 13th annual national calculator math competition organized by the Ministry of Education and Training took place simultaneously at 4 regional exam councils across the country, including: Phu Tho, Gia Lai, Dong Thap and Hanoi City.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien presented souvenirs to representatives of delegations participating in the exam.
This year's exam attracted the participation of 1,494 students from 60 provinces and centrally-run cities nationwide; registered for the subjects: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology. Each participating unit has a maximum of 6 teams; including: 1 9th grade junior high school math team, 4 12th grade high school teams in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and 1 12th grade BTTHPT team. Each participating team has a maximum of 5 candidates selected through the provincial exam.
The results announced at the closing ceremony and award ceremony of the Exam at the Hanoi Examination Council showed that Hanoi had the most first prizes in the exam subjects, with 03 first prizes in Secondary School Math, 03 first prizes in Chemistry and 01 first prize in Biology. Following was Bac Ninh with 02 first prizes in Secondary School Math, 01 first prize in High School Math and 02 first prizes in Physics. There were 03 units awarded the Team Prize, including Thanh Hoa, Hai Duong and Ninh Binh. In particular, there were 02 outstanding individual first prizes at the Hanoi Examination Council awarded to Nguyen Tuan Anh, grade 12, Yen Khanh A High School, Ninh Binh province and Luong Van Quy, grade 12, Hau Loc High School, Thanh Hoa province.
Present at the closing ceremony and award ceremony at the Hanoi Examination Council, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien congratulated the students and the units participating in the exam for their high achievements; at the same time, he hoped that the students would continue to promote the achieved results, constantly strive to study and practice, and achieve high results in their studies. The Deputy Minister also highly appreciated the organization of the exam, with the companionship of two familiar sponsors: Binh Tay Import-Export Joint Stock Company (BITEX) sponsored the organization costs and prizes for the Math exam; Viet Nhat Electronics Joint Stock Company (VNC) sponsored the organization costs and prizes for the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology exams.
In addition to the Gold, Silver, Bronze Medals for First, Second, Third prizes and being granted certificates by the Ministry of Education and Training (and enjoying preferential treatment according to current regulations), the winning students and the ranked participating units will also be awarded team prizes (first, second, third) by the sponsor for outstanding groups and individuals, prizes for candidates with students winning first individual prizes and for students winning first prize in the exam, if they pass the university entrance exam, they will be awarded a scholarship worth 2,000,000 VND by the sponsor.
It is known that the calculators used in the 13th exam are the types of calculators allowed to be used in graduation and university exams, including: Casio fx-500 MS, ES; Casio fx-570 MS, ES; Casio fx-500 VN Plus, Casio fx – 570 ES Plus and VINACAL calculators: vn-500MS, vn-570MS and Vinacal 570MS New, Vinacal 570 ES Plus.
