(Baonghean) -The Ministry of Education and Training has just announced 6 subjects for the 2013 high school graduation exam, including: Math, Literature, Foreign Language, Chemistry, Biology and Geography. Immediately after the Ministry of Education and Training announced the graduation exam subjects, 91 high schools in the province have urgently promoted the implementation of knowledge review so that students have a solid foundation and confidence to enter the exam season.
Hurried and urgent is the general atmosphere in the race against time of teachers and nearly 40,000 grade 12 students in all high schools in the province. Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, Vice Principal of Quang Trung High School (Dien Chau) said: “The school divided the graduation exam review for grade 12 students into 3 phases. In phase 1, right from the beginning of the school year, we proactively reviewed knowledge in 8 subjects: Literature, Math, Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography, Biology, Foreign Languages for students (4 sessions per week); in phase 2, starting from the Ministry of Education and Training announced the remaining 3 exam subjects, the school planned to spend time reviewing graduation exam subjects in all afternoons - in which special priority was given to Chemistry, Biology and Geography. After that, the school conducted a survey of the quality of graduation exam subjects, from which to grasp the situation of which chapters and parts the students were weak in in order to have a systematic review plan to fill in the gaps in knowledge.
Phase 3 from the end of April, some graduation exam subjects will be taught in the morning. For the graduation exam review program, teachers must have a separate program and lesson plan, and help students get familiar with each type of question and specific exercise; classify students to have a program to guide them in reviewing knowledge more appropriately and effectively. This year, Quang Trung High School has 317 candidates taking the high school graduation exam. According to the school's first survey results, the percentage of students achieving graduation scores is 120/317 (38%), the school's goal is to strive for a graduation rate of over 95%. To achieve the set target, teachers and students are currently accelerating their review.

For Nguyen Xuan On High School (Dien Chau), with high entrance requirements, being one of the top schools in the province, students' academic performance is relatively even, the graduation exam is a "normal part of studying", so the graduation exam review is not too heavy for students. However, to avoid the situation of students being subjective and negligent, the school organized a meeting for parents to thoroughly understand the Ministry's exam policies and regulations; reminded students to focus on graduation exam subjects; teachers have a plan to systematize knowledge and test-taking skills for students. "After receiving the Department's official dispatch on graduation exam review instructions, the school has reviewed the curriculum content of the subjects. If any subject is lacking hours or lessons, a make-up teaching plan will be made, absolutely not cutting the program.
The graduation exam review for students mainly consists of instructions on how to do the test, grasping basic knowledge, students reading and researching at home, and a maximum of 3 extra classes at school per week to avoid cramming knowledge. For students with weak academic performance, the school arranges group study, assigns good students to tutor and teachers to tutor. It is expected that when the program ends (before May 10), the school will organize a graduation mock exam for grade 12 students, seriously conducting the task of creating questions, invigilating, grading, and returning papers, giving specific comments to each student so that they can gain experience for the real exam," said Ms. Phan Thi Thu Huong, Principal of the school.
As for Tuong Duong Ethnic Boarding High School, the unit with the lowest graduation rate and also the place where many candidates violated the exam regulations in the 2012 high school graduation exam, is currently rushing to complete the review work. Currently, the school has conducted the first graduation mock exam for grade 12 students, and on May 15 will organize the second mock exam, then continue to review for students until the exam date. In addition to organizing review and preparing knowledge for students, the dissemination of exam regulations to students is carried out thoroughly and systematically in parent meetings, flag-raising sessions, and class activities; the youth union is assigned to exchange with students in the form of questions and answers.
Due to the characteristics of students in mountainous and ethnic areas, when the school program ends, many students neglect their exam preparation to go home, sometimes skipping the exam. During this time, in order to "retain" students, in addition to encouraging their spirit, organizing extra tutoring at night in the dormitory, outside of school hours, the school also organizes sports and cultural exchanges between students and teachers to create a comfortable and happy atmosphere for them. In particular, this year, the school received consensus and active support from parents in supporting students' graduation exam preparation costs. On average, each 12th grade student contributes 300,000 VND/50 exam preparation sessions, thereby encouraging the spirit and responsibility of teachers towards students.
Along with the initiative in reviewing, grade 12 students are also interested by schools when considering and arranging a team of experienced teachers with capacity and solid professional qualifications. Many high school teachers commented that this year's exam subjects are arranged quite harmoniously when divided equally, including 3 natural subjects, 3 social subjects (3 essay subjects, 3 multiple choice subjects). The trend is that most students register for university entrance exams in group A (Math, Physics, Chemistry) and group B (Math, Chemistry, Biology), so the high school graduation exams as above are relatively easy for students. Especially more favorable are students in group B and D1 (Math, Literature, English).
As for Geography, the graduation exam has been held for 5 consecutive years, so it does not put much pressure on students. Truong Thi Cam Tu, a student at Nguyen Xuan On High School, said: “I took the D exam, so the Literature, Math, and Foreign Language subjects are not too worrying. In other exam subjects, following the instructions of the teachers, we study according to the topics of each chapter and lesson. As for Geography, in addition to practicing how to draw charts and atlas exploitation skills, I also refer to the experiences of seniors, because this is a subject that has been held for many consecutive years.”
Only 1 month left, the high school graduation exam and high school supplementary exam will take place. With last year's graduation rate of 98.9%, many opinions say that the graduation exam is no longer as heavy and stressful as before. There is studying and taking exams, the knowledge of the graduation exam is within the framework of the textbook program, so students only need to grasp the knowledge they have learned. This year, the Department of Education and Training has also had a policy of focusing on closely following the teaching and learning program, in which, special attention is paid to reviewing standard knowledge and skills for students in the general education program. And also according to information from the Department of Testing and Quality Assessment, this year, the content of the graduation exam is within the current high school program, mainly knowledge of grade 12. The exam will also not be in the form of puzzles, so students just need to study hard and practice, then achieving an average score is not difficult.
