Investing in Nghe An - Opportunities for Korean businesses

That was the theme of the Investment Promotion Conference held on the morning of July 12th in Hanoi, co-organized by the People's Committee of Nghe An province and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). The conference was attended by over 400 delegates, including 200 representatives from Korean businesses.

(Baonghean.vn) –That was the theme of the Investment Promotion Conference held on the morning of July 12th in Hanoi, co-organized by the People's Committee of Nghe An province and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). The conference was attended by over 400 delegates, including 200 representatives from Korean businesses.

Attending the Conference, on the Korean side were: Mr. Jun Dae Joo – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea to Vietnam; Mr. Sun Seog Ki, Director of KOTRA; and Mr. Kwon Kyoung Doug – Deputy Director of KOTRA International. On the Vietnamese side, the Central Committee delegates included: Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue – Head of the Central Economic Committee; Mr. Nguyen The Trung – Deputy Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization; and Mr. Dao Quang Thu – Deputy Minister of Science and Technology.

Delegates from Nghe An province included: Ho Duc Phoc - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, and leaders of departments, boards, and agencies.

Following the welcoming remarks by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Xuan Duong, the Conference heard presentations and speeches from Mr. Jun Dae Joo – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of South Korea to Vietnam, Mr. Kwon Kyoung Doug – Director of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, and Mr. Dao Quang Thu, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology and Investment. The presentations highlighted investment trends, potential, and prospects for investing in Vietnam in general and Nghe An in particular. The Conference also heard Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien – Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee – introduce the investment environment and policies of Nghe An province.

Presentations by Korean businesses that have invested in Nghe An also highlighted the reasons and favorable conditions for investing in Nghe An. The conference also dedicated time to exchanging and answering questions from Korean businesses and investors regarding policy mechanisms, investment attraction areas and sectors, and administrative procedures related to business and investment.

At the conference, the People's Committee of Nghe An province signed agreements with KOTRA Hanoi to establish a cooperative relationship to promote South Korean foreign investment in Nghe An province and promote trade between Nghe An and South Korea; StrongPlus Elevator Co., Ltd., South Korea, invested in a project to manufacture elevators using modern South Korean technology with a total investment of 10 million USD; Global Sourcing International Co., Ltd., South Korea, invested in a garment export project with an investment of 2.5 million USD.

Comrade Ho Duc Phoc, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, concluded the conference by affirming the potential and advantages of Nghe An's natural resources and human capital; and the determination of the Party Committee, government, and people of Nghe An province to successfully achieve socio-economic development goals and attract foreign investment, with Korean businesses and investors being one of the key focuses.

Nghe An province continues to significantly improve its investment and business environment; it hopes that Korean businesses and investors will be interested in exploring and investing in large-scale, highly efficient projects, prioritizing projects that utilize high technology, have high added value, and are environmentally friendly. Some priority areas include: processing industry, mechanical engineering, electronics, information technology, new materials production, cement, supporting industries and services, and infrastructure construction. Priority areas include Vinh City, Cua Lo town, the Southeast Economic Zone linked to the Southern Nghe An - Northern Ha Tinh region; Hoang Mai and Dong Hoi linked to the Southern Thanh Hoa - Northern Nghe An region; and Nghia Dan, Tan Ky, and Quy Hop linked to the Western Nghe An region.

To date, Nghe An province has 12 active investment projects by South Korean businesses with a registered capital of nearly 61 million USD, employing over 10,000 local workers. Typical examples include the construction of the Hitech BSE Vietnam telecommunications components and equipment manufacturing plant in Nam Cam Industrial Park with a total investment of 30 million USD and a capacity of 250 million products per year; and the project to manufacture mobile phone speakers and other electronic components by the EM TECH Vietnam Co., Ltd. branch in Nghe An, with a capacity of 96 million products per year and an investment of 3 million USD. The banana planting and export project of Globe Farm Vietnam Co., Ltd. covers an area of ​​200 hectares in Vien Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, with a total investment of 3 million USD... In addition, there is one project that has been operating effectively: the Vietnam-Korea Technical Vocational College, invested by the Korean Government with a total investment of 7.3 million USD since 1999.
