Prosecutors said the fourth victim was a police officer who was shot dead by the brothers during the chase. If convicted, Tsarnaev could face life in prison or even the death penalty, according to US prosecutors.

In Boston, U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz described that the Tsarnaev brothers had prepared for the attack more than two months in advance. Ms. Ortiz told reporters that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan, 26, went to a shooting range to practice exercises and bought electronic devices online as well as downloaded manuals and construction manuals on how to make explosives. Prosecutors added that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev also faces charges of carjacking and illegal trafficking./.
