Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, and also a member of the AFC Standing Committee, said that right after the Vietnamese delegation arrived in Mauritius (Africa) - where the 63rd FIFA Annual Congress took place, he took the opportunity to work with Mr. John Windsor, AFC's tournament director, about hosting the 2014 Asian Cup. Mr. Tuan was informed by Mr. Windsor that the AFC had chosen Vietnam to host the 2014 Asian Cup.

After the FIFA Annual Congress, AFC will come to Vietnam to inspect the stadium and necessary procedures before signing a contract with VFF.

This is good news for Vietnamese women's football because when selected, the Vietnamese women's team will have many advantages in competing for tickets to the 2015 World Cup finals in Canada.

Currently, the 2014 Asian Cup Finals have determined 7/8 teams that will compete: Vietnam (first place in Group C), Thailand (first place in Group B), Myanmar (first place in Group D) and four teams that will enter directly: defending champions Australia, Japan, China and South Korea. The last team to participate in the Finals will be determined next June when the qualifying round of Group A (including Uzbekistan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon) takes place.

In the 2014 Asian Cup (scheduled to take place from May 14 to 25), the eight participating teams will be divided into two groups and compete in a round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. These will also be the four teams representing Asia that will automatically qualify for the 2015 World Cup. The two third-placed teams in the group stage will play a play-off match to determine the final team from the continent to qualify for Canada.

With their superior strength compared to the remaining opponents, Australia, Japan, China and South Korea will almost certainly win the first four tickets to the 2015 World Cup. Meanwhile, Vietnam will compete with two main opponents, Myanmar and Thailand, for the remaining ticket.

It is known that VFF will choose Japan to send the Vietnamese women's team for long-term training in preparation for the 2014 Asian Cup finals.
