The massive storm not only spawned tornadoes that hit Oklahoma City and its suburbs, but also dumped heavy rains across Oklahoma and Missouri. Television footage showed streets turned into rivers, with water up to car windows.

The storm spawned its first tornado in El Reno before hitting Oklahoma City on May 31. At least four other tornadoes with winds exceeding 60 mph were reported in Oklahoma and surrounding areas, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

The storm then moved into Missouri. Reuters reported that Missouri Governor Jay Nixon recently urged local residents not to drive through flooded areas. “The rivers are overflowing, so we urge people to be vigilant. The current situation is still very dangerous,” Mr. Nixon emphasized.

About 200,000 people are still without power in Oklahoma and Missouri. Officials said the tornadoes did not hit Oklahoma as hard as the one that hit two weeks ago, which killed 24 people.
