Care and support for livelihoods of people with disabilities and orphans

(Baonghean.vn) -Today, April 18, the Provincial Association for the Protection of Orphans and Disabled Children celebrated the Day of the Disabled and Orphans. Attending were representatives of the leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, and the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of 20 districts and cities.

Nghe An province currently has over 221,000 disabled people and orphans (accounting for 7% of the population), of which 203,864 are disabled and over 17,650 are orphans. In 2011, 2012 and the first quarter of 2013, the Association's fund has mobilized a total of over 8.1 billion VND. From this fund, the provincial association and all levels of the association have visited and given gifts to nearly 6,000 disabled people and orphans. Of which, bicycles were given to 116 cases, cataract surgery was performed for 329 subjects; orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation were performed for 100 cases; sewing, electrical and civil electrical training was provided to 60 people; jobs were created for 32 subjects; wheelchairs and assistive devices were given to 212 people and hundreds of scholarships worth hundreds of millions of VND were awarded.

Regarding sponsorship activities, the Association has identified a livelihood support program for people with disabilities and orphans. This is one of two key programs that need to be focused on directing and implementing. Currently, plans have been developed in 42 communes for new rural construction. Specifically, in Nam Anh commune (MaleDan), Ngoc Son commune (Quynh Luu), with an amount of 730 million VND. The project includes 8 contents, including making a wheelchair road (access road), supporting buffalo and cow breeds...

In 2013, with the program "Inspiring the source of charity", helping the disabled and orphans, the Association set 8 goals: Mobilizing funds to reach 10 billion VND (each commune, ward, and town in the coastal plains with an association organizes 50 million VND); vocational training for 1,000 people; performing eye surgery for 500 cases; performing rehabilitation surgery for 300 cases; donating 500 wheelchairs; donating 200 bicycles; supporting the construction of 50 charity houses; implementing livelihood support for 30 communes.
