Reuters reported that a Palestinian government source said on June 20 that the territory's newly appointed Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah had submitted his resignation to President Mahmoud Abbas.

It is still unclear whether President Abbas will accept the offer or why Mr. Hamdallah, who was sworn in as prime minister on June 6, decided to resign.

Previously, on June 2, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas appointed Mr. Rami Al Hamdallah, Rector of Al-Najah University in the city of Nablus in the West Bank, as Prime Minister to lead the new government, replacing the previous government headed by Mr. Salam Fayyad.

According to official sources, Mr. Hamdallah, a member of the Fatah movement led by Mr. Abbas, is also the head of the central election committee and the Palestine Stock Exchange./.
