The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has submitted to the Prime Minister a Project to Reorganize Seafood Exploitation.

This year of the Snake promises that fishermen operating at sea will enjoy a number of new policy mechanisms when the Project on Reorganization of Marine Fisheries Exploitation is approved by the Prime Minister.

According to the Directorate of Fisheries, in 2012, our country's seafood exploitation reached over 2 million tons, contributing significantly to the development of the industry. However, marine exploitation activities are still spontaneous, scattered, small-scale, and modern equipment is still low, only reaching about 3%; post-harvest seafood is mainly preserved using old methods, so the amount of seafood lost is up to 30%...

To overcome this problem, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has submitted to the Prime Minister a Project on Reorganizing Seafood Exploitation. Accordingly, the goal by 2020 is to basically organize seafood exploitation production according to each occupational group, develop exploitation maps, forecast fishing grounds, build wholesale seafood markets, fishery logistics service centers, invest in building new logistics service vessels... and gradually modernize fishing vessels, increase fishermen's time at sea...

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam said: “After the Prime Minister approves, in 2013 and the following years, we must first investigate the resources and have statistical data on the changing reserves of large fish, small pelagic fish, and bottom fish. In exploitation, we will focus on improving post-harvest preservation and reducing losses in exploitation. In 2013, we will propose a number of policy mechanisms, especially in the field of marine exploitation. For example, policies on post-harvest preservation, policies on modernizing fishing vessels, credit policies for fishermen and a number of policies to support and protect fishermen to avoid risks at sea”./.
