Besides using Western medicine to treat acute episodes, people with sinusitis can apply some of the following folk remedies for long-term, safe treatment.

Here are 8 folk remedies for sinusitis:

1. Tan Di

- Take 9g of Magnolia flower buds and 3 chicken eggs, boil both until cooked, and drink the resulting liquid.
- Boil 9g of Magnolia officinalis, 15g of Xanthium strumarium, and 6g of Mentha arvensis in water and drink the decoction. Boil the remaining herbs again until the liquid is very concentrated, then mix with onion juice and use as nasal drops.
- Boil 9g of Magnolia officinalis and 30g of Polygonum multiflorum in water and drink warm.

2. Fresh ginger, dried onions

Crush the two herbs to extract the juice, mix the two ingredients well, and use as nasal drops. Patients should use the drops continuously for two weeks, 3-5 times a day.

3. Garlic and honey

Crush garlic to extract the juice, then mix it with honey (the amount of honey should be double the amount of garlic juice). The patient should rinse their nose with saline solution, dry it, and then use a cotton swab dipped in the honey-garlic solution to insert into the nostril. Do this 3-4 times a day for 7-8 days.

4. Peanuts

Take 7-9 peanuts and put them in a metal box. Cover the box tightly with paper, leaving a small hole. Place the metal box on the stove and use the smoke rising from the small hole to fumigate your nose. Do this once a day for 30 days, and your condition will improve.

5. Lychee peel

Take lychee peels, dry them, grind them into powder, and store in a container. Twice a day, the patient should take a small amount of the powder and inhale it through their nose. Doing this continuously for several days will help clear nasal passages and treat sinusitis.

Dried lychee peel can also be used to treat sinusitis. (Illustrative image.)

6. Phellodendron bark

Take 10g of Phellodendron bark and soak it in 100ml of water for 24 hours. Then, filter out the sediment and boil it to make a 10% Phellodendron bark solution. Use this solution as nasal drops 3-4 times a day.

7. Corn silk, Angelica root

120g fresh corn silk, 30g Angelica sinensis root. Dry the corn silk and cut it into 1cm pieces. Briefly roast the Angelica sinensis root in a pot, then cut it into thin strips.

Mix the two herbs together in a sealed container. Then, using a new pipe, put the mixture in and smoke it like loose tobacco. Do this 5-7 times a day for 2 weeks, and the patient will see results.

8. Five-colored flower

Take 10 fresh purple lantana flowers, wash them thoroughly, crush them, and soak them in 10ml of 70% alcohol. Then, filter the mixture through clean gauze to obtain a green solution. Each day, the patient should use a cotton ball soaked in the alcohol solution and place it in each nostril for 10 minutes.
