India launches research and development of "robotic soldiers".
India is researching and developing "robotic soldiers" to enhance its unmanned fighting capabilities.
According to a project being implemented by India's Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), these robots will be very "intelligent," capable of distinguishing between threats and friends.

Once successfully developed, these "robotic soldiers" could be deployed in challenging war zones such as the Line of Control (LoC), helping to minimize human casualties.
In an interview with the PTI news agency, Avinash Chander, the new Director of DRDO, said that the organization is researching and developing highly intelligent "robotic soldiers."
This is a new program, and several laboratories have already begun research. Chander considers the development of "robotic soldiers" one of his priority areas and says that "humanless warfare on land and in the air will take place in the future."
The initial goal was for "robot soldiers" to only play a supporting role for humans. For example, in the early stages of the project, "robot soldiers" would receive commands from humans to identify enemies or allies, but gradually, at some point, the "robot soldiers" would go to the front lines and humans would only play a supporting role for the robots.
According to Chander, the development of "robotic soldiers" is necessary to protect precious human lives. Robots are already being used in areas where humans are unwilling to take risks, such as bomb disposal or entering areas with high levels of radiation.
"Robot soldiers" are simply a further step in this direction and require more technology, including information technology for communicating with team members and the ability to identify enemies.
Currently, about 5-6 countries are actively researching "robotic soldiers," but have not yet achieved complete development.
