After conducting a lengthy experiment, American scientists were able to determine the longevity of dolphin memories. The study, published on August 7, showed that this marine mammal has the longest social memory in the animal kingdom.

To reach this conclusion, scientists at the Chicago Institute for Mind and Biology conducted a special experiment. Accordingly, the dolphin Bailey was isolated from his "girlfriend" Alice for more than 20 years.

However, after such a long time apart, Bailey still recognized Alice's signals after American scientists transmitted those signals over loudspeakers.

From there, researchers confirmed that dolphins have the longest memory in the animal kingdom, a position previously held by elephants with a 10-year memory.

Currently, American researchers are continuing to conduct further experiments to see if dolphins can recognize their "relatives" when they hear the whistle calling their flock.

Scientists around the world have long been trying to understand the memory span of animals. Previously, Danish scientists had determined that chimpanzees and orangutans also have very long memories. They remember everything that happened to them in the distant past, and are also able to remember some things that may not be beneficial to them in the future.

Over three years, researchers from Aarhus University (Denmark) observed the behavior of 20 chimpanzees and orangutans.

During the experiment, the chimpanzees were trained to use a wire to retrieve fruit from a box placed behind the wall of their cage. The scientists then moved them to another cage and repeated the experiment using the wire to retrieve fruit from the box for three years.

The results showed that these chimpanzees easily remembered how to use “tools” to get delicious food. They could find a wire hidden in their cage within 5 seconds and quickly use it to get fruit.

According to scientists, this shows that apes have long memories like humans, and use memory to solve survival tasks./.
