According to the Department of Industry and Trade of An Giang province, in late July, the price of white meat grade 1 pangasius was 20,500-21,000 VND/kg, an increase of 500-700 VND/kg, the price of pink meat pangasius increased by 400-600 VND/kg to 20,400-20,800 VND/kg, the price of yellow meat pangasius also increased by 500-600 VND/kg to 20,000-20,300 VND/kg.
However, the price of pangasius this week is still lower than the same period last year. Specifically, the price of white fish decreased by VND500/kg compared to the same period in early August last year, the price of pink fish decreased by VND100-200/kg and the price of yellow fish was VND300-500/kg lower.
Although fish prices have increased, fish farmers are currently losing 3,000 VND/kg, due to the high price of feed. The price of agricultural materials and feed is the biggest cost in production, affecting the cost price. Many people do not have capital, buy materials on “book”, and the dealer adds interest to the selling price, this interest is calculated higher than the bank interest.
Previously, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the output of tra fish in the first 7 months of 2013 was estimated at 591,000 tons, with a farming area of over 5,300 hectares. Compared to the same period last year, the output of tra fish in most localities decreased, such as Can Tho decreased by 25%, Vinh Long decreased by 7.9%, and Ben Tre decreased by 4.3%.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also pointed out that the main reason for the recent decline in output is due to low fish prices and high input costs, causing many farmers to suspend their ponds and stop production.
In addition, many businesses have not paid farmers for purchases for many months, causing people to have to pay high bank loan interest, making it difficult to raise tra fish./.
