(Baonghean) -In the midst of the difficult coastal area of Dien Chau district, Dien Van Commune Health Station is truly a bright spot of the health sector nationwide. The history of more than 50 years of establishment and development of the Station has recorded many meaningful milestones, typically the title of Labor Hero in the renovation period awarded by the State in December 2009.

Dien Van Commune Medical Station was established in 1958 under extremely difficult conditions, lacking both facilities and human resources. During the years of resistance against the US, the medical station had to move 3 times to avoid being attacked by US aircraft. However, whether the clinic was temporarily located in trenches, fortifications or hidden under the bamboo hedges of the village, the station was still a reliable address for treating illnesses for both coastal people and wounded soldiers and officers. When the country was unified and peace was restored, the medical station was moved to its current location and entered a new period of construction and development.

Over time, with many different funding sources, the station's facilities have been invested in and built systematically, well meeting the people's needs for medical examination and treatment. In early June, the station is preparing to complete the final steps to put into use a 2-storey building with 18 examination and treatment rooms. "The building was built with a total cost of nearly 4.7 billion VND sponsored by the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade", said Dr. Tran Dinh Thong - Station Head. Currently, on a total area of nearly 3,000m2, Dien Van Medical Station has 16 inpatient beds and functional rooms such as X-ray, ultrasound, biochemical testing and a diverse medicinal herb garden with a rich variety of species on an area of 1,000m2. In addition, Dien Van has built a Fund for the medical cause with contributions from the people. Therefore, every year, the commune medical station has more funds to serve medical work in the area.

Currently, the station has 1 doctor, 1 traditional medicine practitioner, 1 midwife, 1 nurse, 1 pharmacist and 2 medical technicians. Nurse Nguyen Thi Dien, who has been working at the station since 2001, shared: “The station is developing very quickly in terms of scale and facilities. For more than 10 years working here, the station has regularly created conditions for me to study and improve my skills. Therefore, I feel very secure in my work to better serve the medical examination and treatment needs of the people.”

The facilities and human resources are constantly invested in both breadth and depth, so the medical examination and treatment work of the station is increasingly enhanced, meeting the needs of the people and the expectations of the Party and State that have placed their trust in the station. Doctor Thong shared: "Almost all diseases related to the internal, surgical, obstetrics and pediatrics departments are handled on-site by the station. Only severe emergency cases, surgical emergencies and specialized diseases such as tuberculosis, lung, mental health, and endocrinology must be transferred to higher levels for treatment."

Normally, in a coastal commune with limited land and a large population, the disease progression will be very complicated, but in Dien Van commune, thanks to the application of the topic: "Home health management using information technology system", the station has a very specific and scientific grasp of health information of each person in the commune. Doctor Thong said: "Dien Van has about 1,500 households with more than 6,000 people. Every year, after periodic health check-ups, we save all information into the management program on the computer. Therefore, the station can monitor and promptly update the health status of each household and each person to proactively propose treatment plans when there is a disease."

Patient Nguyen Thi Ha - Xuan Bac hamlet, Dien Van commune shared: "We feel very secure every time we have to go to the clinic because the facilities here are very good, the rooms are clean and airy. The doctors and nurses examine and care for us very attentively and thoughtfully, especially Dr. Thong, the station chief, who is both highly skilled and experienced, and loves his patients very much."

The good news spread far and wide, now patients from many neighboring communes such as Dien Kim, Dien Bich, Dien Phong, Dien Hong, Dien Hai also come to the station for examination and treatment when needed. The day I came to find information at the station, it was early afternoon but there were already many patients from the above communes waiting for their turn to be examined, vaccinated... Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lan in Dien Kim commune was holding her 5-month-old grandchild waiting for her turn to get vaccinated and shared: "This time I brought my grandchild to Dien Van Medical Station to get vaccinated against pneumonia. The doctors and nurses here are very professional, so I feel very secure when bringing my grandchild here to get vaccinated."

“Most of the patients are still poor. Every time they get sick, they have to go far away for treatment, which is very expensive and an economic burden for the whole family. Therefore, we believe that we must do a good job of health care right at the grassroots level, both to help the people and to reduce pressure on upper-level hospitals,” shared Dr. Tran Dinh Thong, Meritorious Physician of Dien Van Commune Health Station, Dien Chau District.
