Reduced by 100,000 applications for university and college entrance exams in 2013.
According to the Department of Examination and Quality Assurance (Ministry of Education and Training), the total number of applications for university and college entrance exams in 2013 was 1,710,983, a decrease of 100,000 compared to 2012 (approximately 6%). Of these, approximately 1.34 million applications were for university entrance exams, accounting for 79%. The number of applications for college entrance exams was over 367,000, accounting for 21%.

According to statistics, the number of applications for the economics and management group of majors in 2013 decreased by 10.5% compared to 2012. However, this group of majors still accounted for the highest percentage of total applications at 19.9%.
The number of applications for college-level entrance exams decreased by 13% in Group A; while Groups A1, B, C, D1, etc., saw an increase of 0.3-3.7%.
Other fields of study showed a slight increase in the number of applications. Specifically, the education science field increased by 3.1%, health sciences by 1.7%, engineering technology by 0.5%, environment and environmental protection by 1.4%, and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries by nearly 0.3%.
Regarding exam subjects, the number of applications for subject group A was dominant at 39.1%, however, this rate decreased by 8% compared to 2012. Subject group A1 saw the largest increase at 10.2%, up 5% compared to 2012; subject group B increased by 1.9%, reaching 23.2%; while subject group C applications decreased by 0.2% compared to 2012.
2013 was the first year the Ministry of Education and Training implemented the regulation requiring vocational and college graduates who had completed their studies less than 36 months prior to enrolling in higher education programs to take the same entrance exam as regular high school students in the university entrance examination. Accordingly, the number of applications for transfer programs this year was 16,710, including nearly 13,300 applications for university transfer programs and 3,415 applications for college transfer programs.
