According to local authorities, the raging fire spread rapidly, engulfing an area of approximately 4,000 hectares. Around 1,000 firefighters and nearly 20 aircraft of various types have been mobilized to combat the blaze, but only 10% of the fire has been brought under control.
The fire has spread to Palm Springs International Airport, but the runways remain open. The fight against the blaze is hampered by high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds.
