This is the information announced by the Department of Product and Goods Quality Management (under the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality) in a recent survey of moon cake quality in 2013 in Hanoi.

The three samples discovered included: a mixed moon cake without eggs, a mung bean moon cake and a ham moon cake with total mold levels exceeding 9, 22 and 780 times the allowable limit.

In addition, the authorities also discovered a cake sample containing E. coli bacteria exceeding the permitted limit and 2/10 samples had missing information on the label. The quality survey was conducted by the Department of Product and Goods Quality Management at 5 establishments in Hanoi with a total of 10 cake samples.

Through the survey results, the Department of Product and Goods Quality Management proposed that the Department of Food Safety strengthen the inspection and quality control of cakes on the market, especially at production facilities where test samples do not meet quality standards.
