An estimated 1,000 people remain stranded in Larimer and Boulder counties as rising floodwaters erode roads, structures and telecommunications lines.

At least 1,500 homes were destroyed and 4,500 others were severely damaged by the floods. The bad weather also destroyed many properties and goods of businesses operating in the state of Colorado.

The flooding that has lasted for the past week is second only to the 1976 flood in Boulder, also in this state, which killed nearly 150 people. President Barack Obama has approved federal aid to help areas affected by the above flooding. In 1969, the US state of Colorado also experienced prolonged heavy rains that caused widespread flooding./.
