“Salam ASEAN” Big Arms Exchange in Jakarta
On September 15, at Monas Victory Square in the center of Jakarta, Indonesia, the "Salam ASEAN" (Hello ASEAN) Big Hand-Holding Exchange took place.
This is a cultural event organized by young diplomats from the Diplomatic Academy of Indonesia, with the support of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ASEAN Secretariat and the Jakarta City Government.
Tens of thousands of people, mostly young people and many families with members from all generations, from the capital Jakarta and neighboring provinces, participated in the event.
"Salam ASEAN" is an activity for young people, students of colleges and universities, mass organizations and interested people in the capital city of Jakarta, to widely promote the spirit of One Vision - One Community - One Identity of ASEAN, and at the same time express solidarity and friendship among countries in the association, especially among young people.
ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General for Community and Enterprise, Dr. AKP Mochtan said this is an initiative of young ASEAN diplomats, demonstrating the strength, inspiration and creativity of ASEAN youth, as well as their support, determination and aspiration in participating in building the ASEAN Community by 2015.
Ms. Fatimqah Alatas from the Diplomatic Academy of Indonesia and a member of the Organizing Committee, said that according to the plan, about 4,000 students from Indonesian colleges and universities will form a large circle around the Monas Victory Monument, to demonstrate the strength, solidarity and friendship of ASEAN youth, and at the same time create a new record for connecting ASEAN's large circle.
Besides the "Salam ASEAN" Big Circle, there are also a series of other cultural activities such as aerobics performances by schools and mass clubs, introduction of the ASEAN photo contest organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, art performances by students of the Diplomatic Academy and performances by the famous band Leo AFI & band./.
