Prime Minister Hun Sen asserts that the new government is legitimate.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen affirmed on September 25 that his newly formed government is legitimate since it was approved by King Norodom Sihamoni.

Speaking at his first cabinet meeting, Mr Hun Sen said: "This government is a legitimate government, born from the election and approved by the King."

"The King has signed the recognition of the new government. There is no need for authorization from the Secretary-General of the United Nations or the signatories of the Paris Treaty."

Mr. Hun Sen's statement was made after the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) announced on the same day that it would not recognize the government headed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, which was newly established on September 24./.
