(Baonghean.vn) -In the 9th National Math Olympiad for Children held in Vinh Phuc province recently, Nghe An excellently won the Gold Cup in the "Team Support" competition and won 10 medals of all kinds. Contributing to the overall achievement of the Nghe An Student Delegation was a student from Quynh Luu district, that is Dang Thuy Duyen, a 5B student of Quynh Hong Primary School with 1 National Bronze Medal.
We visited Dang Thuy Duyen's family in Hamlet 6, Quynh Hong Commune, Quynh Luu District when she had just returned from the competition. Both parents work in the family carpentry business. Dang Thuy Duyen began to love Math since grade 3 when she was taught by teacher Hoang Thi Loi. With easy-to-understand teaching methods, creating interest in learning, and active participation of students, teacher Loi created in Thuy Duyen a love and passion for the subject from a very early age. Thuy Duyen likes Math because learning Math helps her practice her memory and has a lot of fun when discovering interesting things about Math.
In grade 5, teacher Kieu Thi Van was in charge of many subjects, including Math. Ms. Van is an excellent teacher, having participated in training excellent students for many years in provincial and national competitions. With her own determination and perseverance, along with the guidance and enthusiastic nurturing of Ms. Van, Dang Thuy Duyen has achieved many high achievements in her studies. For 5 consecutive years, Thuy Duyen has been an excellent student, winning many high awards. In the 2013 school year, Dang Thuy Duyen was the valedictorian of the district-level Math Olympiad for children.
After being selected for the provincial and national competition teams, Thuy Duyen was trained by teacher Kieu Thi Van and many other excellent teachers. She and her teammates studied hard to prepare well for the competitions. As a result, she won first prize in the provincial Math Olympiad for children and won a national bronze medal in the national Olympiad held in Vinh Phuc province in early June 2013.

When asked about the secret to being good at Math, Thuy Duyen humbly replied: “I don’t have any secret. In class, I focus on studying to grasp the knowledge and do exercises from easy to difficult. At home, I do a lot of advanced exercises and read more reference books. When I encounter a difficult problem, I always try to find a way to solve it before going to bed.”
Speaking about her student, teacher Kieu Thi Van, homeroom teacher of class 5B at Quynh Hong Primary School, who directly taught and trained her, said: “Dang Thi Thuy Duyen is a good student, diligent, persistent, and tenacious in her studies. She always completes her assignments, no matter how difficult the assignment is, she is determined to make an effort to complete it. In school activities, Thuy Duyen is a highly self-disciplined, exemplary student, loved by her friends.”
With the high achievement in the recent Math Olympiad, Dang Thuy Duyen was directly admitted to grade 6 of Ho Xuan Huong Secondary School for the 2013-2014 school year. That further multiplied the joy of this determined little student.
In addition to being passionate and good at Math, Dang Thuy Duyen also loves and is good at English. Last school year, she won third prize in the district-level online English competition. Dang Thuy Duyen's future dream is to become a good doctor to treat many patients.
