(Baonghean.vn) -While the lowlands and coastal areas are only just beginning to feel the chill of the first northeast monsoon winds these days, in the highlands of Ky Son district, the biting cold has been present for over a month.
Located in the mountainous border region of western Nghe An province, Ky Son has long been known for its harsh climate. The Truong Son mountain range, as it passes through this area, creates significant differences in weather and hydrology. Winter temperatures in the mountainous Ky Son region are always only about half that of the lowlands. Nevertheless, these natural characteristics have given this land its own unique features.
Here are some images of Huoi Tu - one of the remote, particularly disadvantaged communes in Ky Son district:

| It was past 10 a.m., but Huoi Tu market was still shrouded in thick fog. |
 |
| The outdoor temperature right now is only about 15 degrees.0C, boarding students at Huoi Tu Secondary School begin preparing their belongings for a bitterly cold winter. |
 |
| A quiet life is a characteristic of the people here. |

| Teacher Vo Thanh Binh – a teacher at Keng Du 1 Primary School – stopped at Huoi Tu market to buy food before going to school. |

| And Teacher Binh didn't forget to buy an extra bunch of green tea. |
