End of the high-level discussion session of the 68th UN General Assembly
Concluding the high-level debate of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly on defining a new global development agenda, General Assembly President John Ashe said that now is the time for member countries to find common ground as a foundation for moving towards the future with decisive action.
In his closing remarks at the 2013 General Debate of the General Assembly, themed “The Post-2015 Development Agenda: Making it Real”, Mr. Ashe stressed that most of the statements during the debate pledged strong support for the United Nations post-2015 development agenda.

This signals a positive promise for the next steps and the President of the General Assembly believes that Member States will act collectively and creatively during the 68th session of the General Assembly.
The post-2015 agenda builds on the outcomes of the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development - Rio+20.
According to Mr. Ashe, many member countries have emphasized that this planning work needs to start with defining a global development agenda, including sustainable development goals based on common principles, but with differences.
The General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly, starting from September 24, is an opportunity for heads of member states and senior government officials to contribute their opinions to the planning of the world's development strategy for the post-2015 period to address a series of global concerns such as poverty eradication, climate change, human rights, and security and world peace issues.../.
