Security highlights in border areas
(Baonghean) -The task of maintaining security and order at the grassroots level in general and in border areas in particular is posing many concerns for authorities at all levels and functional agencies. The reality in Son Thanh (Yen Thanh) and neighboring communes shows that when security and order in border areas are ensured, the locality has conditions for socio-economic development and vice versa.
At around 7:00 p.m. on October 5, 2013, people in Son Thanh commune (Yen Thanh) saw two young men on a motorbike dragging a dog on the village road, and immediately shouted for the villagers to chase them. With no way out, the two dog thieves abandoned their motorbikes and ran to Dong Ray mountain to hide. News of the theft spread, and despite the darkness, people from Nghi Van commune (Nghi Loc), Dien Loi commune (Dien Chau), Dai Son commune (Do Luong) and Son Thanh villagers flocked to block all roads, determined to catch the two thieves. In response to the anger of nearly a thousand villagers, the police of Son Thanh, Nghi Van commune, Dien Loi commune and Dai Son commune closely coordinated with Yen Thanh district police to explain and ask the villagers not to act rashly if they caught the criminals, and at the same time called on the two thieves to come and surrender to the police. At around 3am, two "dog thieves" Vu Van Minh (residing in Trung Thanh commune) and Cao Van Huy (residing in Nam Thanh commune) were arrested by the police.

According to Mr. Truong Huu Sau - Chief of Son Thanh Commune Police, this is one of many cases in which the police of 4 communes of 4 districts (Yen Thanh, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, Do Luong) have coordinated to ensure security and order in the border area in recent years. Because the border area has Provincial Road 534 running through it, criminals consider this a favorable condition for "doing business". From that actual situation, Son Thanh has gradually consolidated 93 "self-managed inter-family groups" in 19 hamlets, especially the hamlets in the border area. On the other hand, at the same time, it has improved the commune police force by selecting young, healthy, enthusiastic people to participate in security training courses opened by the district and province. At the same time, it has focused on closely coordinating with the police of Nghi Van, Dien Loi and Dai Son communes in maintaining security and order in the border area.
