Thai Prime Minister announced that he will dissolve parliament and hold elections.

According to Reuters and AFP, on the morning of December 9, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced that she would dissolve parliament and hold elections "as soon as possible" after a wave of anti-government protests broke out in the capital Bangkok.

In a televised speech, Prime Minister Yingluck said: "At this stage, when there are many people from many groups opposing the government, the best way is to return power to the Thai people and hold an election."

"After consulting with many parties, I have submitted a royal decree to dissolve parliament. I will also consult the Election Commission to soon set a date for holding elections," she affirmed.

Ms. Yingluck's statement was made in the context of thousands of anti-government protesters pledging to march across the capital Bangkok in a "final battle" against the female prime minister's government.

Meanwhile, protest leader Suthep Thausuban announced on the same day that he would continue protesting because dissolving parliament was not his goal./.
