Poor mother raises 3 children to go to college
(Baonghean) - That is Ms. Bui Thi Vinh in village 3, Tuong Son commune (Anh Son). For nearly 20 years, she has been single-handedly raising her children. The thought of "being poor in material things but not poor in knowledge or love" has helped her overcome all difficulties to bring her children to a bright future.
Ms. Vinh is a veteran born in 1957. After returning to her hometown after being discharged from the army, she worked as a farmer and a village health worker. Her husband, Mr. Truong, worked in the army. The family had 3 children, lived in harmony, were exemplary, and were loved by the villagers. Unfortunately, when the eldest child was 9 and the youngest was just 2 years old, Mr. Truong had an accident on the way to transport food supplies to Laos, and he passed away not long after. Losing the breadwinner, her family fell into a difficult situation. Holding back her emotions, Ms. Vinh confided: “When my husband passed away, my children were still very young. The mental pain and material worries weighed heavily on my shoulders. Thinking of my children, I swallowed my tears and threw myself into production, hoping that they would be able to study properly.”

At that time, many families in Tuong Son had to put aside their children’s dreams of continuing to go to school because of poverty. Worrying about food and clothing was already hard, but Ms. Vinh was determined not to let her children drop out of school. She put all her small allowance, rice, vegetables, etc. into her children’s education. Over the years, the small, simple house became more dilapidated and old, her hands became more calloused and darkened by the sun and wind, but looking at her children’s certificates of merit, she felt like she had gained more strength.
Feeling sorry for their mother's hard work, her children were all well-behaved, good at studying, and always helping their mother with housework and farming. Then, one by one, all three went to university. Not only was there pride and joy, but the worries also multiplied. She tried even harder to save and borrow money to pay for her children's education. After graduation, the two older children, one is a teacher in Ky Son district, the other is the captain of the anti-smuggling team of the Long An province border force. The youngest child is in her third year at Vinh University with the best academic performance in her class. Vinh's family is always considered a studious family, a typical cultural family of the commune.
Not only fulfilling her duties of taking care of her family and raising her children, Ms. Vinh also cares about taking care of everyone's health, promoting and mobilizing people to comply with regulations on hygiene and disease prevention, and regular vaccination. She actively participates in mass organization work as the head of the Women's Union of the village for 3 and 5 consecutive years, she has achieved the title of excellent union official. Ms. Vinh was commended by the Party Committee, the People's Committee of Tuong Son commune and the Women's Union of Anh Son district in the emulation movement "women actively study, work, create, and build happy families".
