(Baonghean) - In order to change small-scale farming practices to concentrated commodity agricultural production and increase crop productivity and value on the same unit area, recently, Quynh Luu district has focused on directing communes to build large-scale model fields with a planned area of 30 - 50 hectares.
Immediately after completing the field arrangement, at the end of 2012, Minh Chau Cooperative, Quynh Ngoc Commune, Quynh Luu started to build a large model field with a total area of 35ha concentrated in hamlets 8, 9 and 10. The fields were concentrated in one place, creating favorable conditions for people to apply scientific and technical advances in production, associated with intensive investment according to IPM and ICM processes. Helping farmers save on transportation and care costs, reducing fertilizer and pesticide costs. At the same time, the commune developed a project to shift the structure of seasonal crops towards commodity production. Along with that, the organization signed a contract with the Central Seed Company 1 in supplying RVT seeds, glutinous rice 97 and consuming products, ensuring stable output for people. Thanks to that, the winter-spring crop in 2013 yielded 76 quintals/ha; Summer-autumn crop yielded 68 quintals/ha and the average production value was over 123 million VND/ha, bringing higher value than conventional rice production of 45 million VND/ha.
Mr. Le Duc Thang - Chairman of Minh Chau Cooperative said: "In the spring crop of 2014, we will expand the area, adding 60 hectares of commercial rice production area. Of which, more than 40 hectares are glutinous rice, 15 hectares we signed a contract with Central Seed Company 1 to produce high quality rice seeds for the company".

In Quynh Thach commune, after the People's Committee held a meeting to discuss and disseminate the benefits of building model fields and received the consent of farmers, the commune immediately started planning to consolidate areas with a total area of 50 hectares of land, with similar farming conditions belonging to Lam Cau hamlet cooperative and proceeded to build embankments, build canals, and solidify internal roads to facilitate irrigation and transportation for the people. At the same time, the cooperative has structured the main rice varieties with high productivity such as: DT68 and GS9, Thai Xuyen, Huong Bien. The commune supports 1 sao of 80 thousand VND for areas applying new technology.
In addition, the Southern Branch of Petroleum Fertilizer Company has brought Phu My fertilizer to invest in farmers, along with the Quynh Luu District Agricultural Extension Station providing training on scientific and technical knowledge, procedures for each stage and fertilization methods according to each growth period of the crop. Thanks to that, the productivity has increased many times compared to the fields produced by traditional methods, bringing excitement to the people.
Mr. Ho Hau Tien - Vice Chairman of Quynh Thach Commune People's Committee added: "In the near future, the commune will continue to build two more models belonging to Quyet Thang and Quynh Vien Cooperatives. Receive seed sources, fertilizer sources, guide people on science and technology, shift crop structure; shift crop structure to commercial vegetables and find output for products".
Currently, along with Quynh Ngoc and Quynh Thach communes, Quynh Luu district has also directed the construction of large-scale field models in 3 communes: Quynh Lam, Quynh Hong and An Hoa. From the actual results, it is clear that this is a major policy, the right direction that brings practical results to farmers. In order for the model to truly go deeper and develop sustainably, the district needs to have a plan to continue to replicate the model to other localities, improve economic efficiency, and contribute to promoting the process of building new rural areas in the district.
