Celebrating the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association

On the afternoon of November 22, in the capital of the Russian Federation, a solemn ceremony took place to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association.

Attending the ceremony were Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Pham Xuan Son, a delegation of the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association led by Major General Trinh Quoc Khanh, Permanent Vice President of the Association, many former Soviet experts, Russian delegates, as well as the Vietnamese community in the Russian Federation.

In his speech at the ceremony, President of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, Mr. Valadimir Petrovitch Buyanov, said that the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association is the legal successor of the former Soviet-Vietnam Friendship Association (established on July 31, 1958) and is one of the oldest associations in the Russian Federation.

This celebration, together with the inauguration of the Hanoi-Moscow Trade-Cultural Center, the first major project invested by Vietnamese people abroad, are important events within the framework of the "Hanoi Days in Moscow" activities organized by the Moscow city government.

According to Mr. Buyanov, the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association currently has nearly 5,000 members, more than 20 branches in different major cities of Russia and is one of the largest associations in Russia.

President Truong Tan Sang sent a congratulatory letter on this occasion.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also sent a congratulatory letter to the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, emphasizing that the Association's origins are talented and enthusiastic people - outstanding representatives of the two countries, helping to strengthen the fine tradition of "people's diplomacy" to consolidate understanding and trust between the two countries.

Chairwoman of the Russian Senate, Ms. B. Matvienco, and Mayor of Moscow, S. Sobyanin, both sent congratulatory letters.

On this occasion, President Truong Tan Sang awarded the Friendship Medal to Major General Anatoli Pozdeev - Vice President of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, and the Friendship Medal to Ms. Ludmila Xaphonova, People's Artist, member of the Association's Executive Committee.

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations also presented the "For Peace and Friendship" Medal to 10 members of the Association./.
