It is expected that the construction and operation of the aforementioned air defense system will be carried out on the basis of coordinated joint activities between the armed forces or unified air defense systems of the two countries during peacetime.

The commanders of units within the unified air defense system will be appointed by the presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan, based on recommendations from the defense ministers of the two countries.

The command base for this system is located in the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan.

The agreement on the establishment of a unified regional air defense system was signed by Russia and Kazakhstan on January 30 in Astana during the first visit to Kazakhstan by Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.
