With this increase, Vietnam is now ranked 70th out of 148 countries in the ranking. Vietnam's ranking increased mainly due to a slightly improved macroeconomic environment, with inflation returning to single digits in 2012. The quality of the transport system and energy infrastructure has improved.

The ranking for the efficiency of the goods market also increased, due to the reduction of trade barriers and corporate income tax. However, the WEF assessed that the fundamentals of the Vietnamese economy are still quite fragile. Some indicators were downgraded. The ranking for the efficiency of the labor market decreased by 5 places, the level of financial market development decreased by 5 places and the level of science and technology decreased by 4 places.
