Dismissal and discipline of many station staff

The Ministry of Transport has just issued a document concluding the handling of the case of railway officials and employees taking advantage of vehicle weighing to push up the price of transporting goods by rail for personal gain.

After reviewing the report dated June 6, 2014 of the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Transport, as well as the report of the Vietnam Railway Corporation on the results of handling railway officials and employees who took advantage of vehicle weighing to push up the price of transporting iron goods for personal gain, Minister Dinh La Thang stated that the grasp of the situation and handling of the case by Saigon Passenger Transport Company and Vietnam Railway Corporation were timely, serious and responsible, and agreed with the disciplinary measures taken by Vietnam Railway Corporation.

Specifically, the head of the chemical transportation team at Dieu Tri station, Nguyen Xuan Binh, was forced to resign; and the head of Dieu Tri station, Le Dinh Tho, was removed from office due to a serious incident occurring in the unit under his management.

Warning, extension of salary increase period for no more than 6 months, and not assigning to tasks or positions related to customer service for the following cases: Nguyen Binh Minh - Train operator at Quang Ngai station, belonging to Nghia Binh Railway Transport Enterprise; Bui Huu Chuong - Train operator and chemical transporter at Tuy Hoa station, belonging to Phu Khanh Railway Transport Enterprise; Nguyen Tien Phuc - Chemical transporter at Nha Trang station.

Reprimands for the following cases: Bui Van Hai - Head of Quang Ngai Station; Tran Ky Thanh - Head of Tuy Hoa Station; Nguyen Duc Manh - Head of Nha Trang Station; Nguyen Van Mien - Deputy Head of Dieu Tri Station; Nguyen Van Binh - Deputy Head of Technical Planning - Transport Safety Department of Dieu Tri Station; Cao Minh Hy - Director of Nghia Binh Railway Transport Enterprise; Nguyen Dinh Tan - Director of Phu Khanh Railway Transport Enterprise.

Following press reports, Minister Dinh La Thang requested the Vietnam Railway Corporation to seriously and promptly rectify the phenomenon of some railway officials and employees taking advantage of the increased demand for transporting goods by rail after the tightening of control over road vehicle loads to arbitrarily raise prices for profit.
