Summary of 2 years of implementing the Legal Aid Development Strategy
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of January 17, the Ministry of Justice held an online conference to review two years of implementing the legal aid development strategy in Vietnam until 2020, with a vision to 2030.

According to the report, after 2 years of implementing the Strategy, the Ministry of Justice has coordinated with ministries, branches, and organizations at the central and local levels to pay attention, direct, and organize implementation nationwide and has achieved many important results. The role of legal aid has been increasingly promoted, contributing to the cause of administrative reform, judicial reform, and building a rule-of-law state, political stability, order, and social security. In 2 years, legal aid organizations have handled 231,830 cases, an average of 115,915 cases/year, an increase of 18% compared to the average year before the strategy was implemented, the cases were mainly legal advice 213,335 cases (accounting for 92%).
The total number of people receiving legal aid is 240,176, including 93,421 poor people (38.9%); 42,832 ethnic minorities (17.8%); 34,079 people with revolutionary contributions (14.2%); 10,819 children (4.5%); 486 people with disabilities (0.2%); 1,213 elderly people (0.5%) and 57,326 other subjects (23.9%). In particular, mobile legal aid activities are of interest, especially in remote communes, remote areas, and areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions.
At the conference, delegates at the connecting points presented topics revolving around the implementation of the Strategy. Speaking at the conference, Comrade Uong Chu Luu - Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly acknowledged the contributions of the Judiciary sector in implementing the legal aid development strategy in the past time. He noted that in order for the legal aid strategy to increasingly affirm its role as a bridge, contributing to bringing the law into life, the Ministry of Justice needs to closely coordinate with ministries, departments and branches to advise on the development of legal aid strategies, enhancing the role of legal aid activities.
