Specifically, in the early morning of April 15, the Environmental Police Team, Ba Dinh District Police, suddenly inspected the seafood trading area at Long Bien market, Phuc Xa ward, Ba Dinh, Hanoi. At warehouse G2, the authorities caught Vu Manh Cam (22 years old, residing in An Thi, Hung Yen), an employee of the seafood area, pouring dozens of kilograms of rotten, smelly squid into large barrels containing industrial chemicals.

During a warehouse inspection, police discovered 750kg of smelly squid being stored, of which 150kg were soaked in chemicals.

At the scene, Cam confessed that he was currently working for Ms. Ngo Thi Nu (46 years old, in Bach Dang ward, Hai Ba Trung district). Regarding the technique of "cleaning" ink, Cam said that to magically turn spoiled ink into fresh ink, Cam mixed 300ml of industrial hydrogen peroxide into a barrel of water and then soaked the ink in it. After about 30 minutes, Cam used an iron rod to stir the ink until it was white and no longer smelled bad, then brought it to Long Bien market to sell.

According to the police, Ms. Nu admitted to secretly bleaching low-quality squid with industrial chemicals for about half a month. To avoid detection, the kiosk owner instructed her employees to lower the warehouse's roller shutters while the squid was being soaked and bleached.

Currently, the Environmental Police (Ba Dinh District Police) have taken samples of ink soaked and chemically removed for analysis.
