In this case, the court also sentenced Ms. Cao Thi Lai, born in 1964, Cuong's biological mother, to 42 months in prison; Ho Duc Phong, born in 1982, to 9 months in prison but with a suspended sentence for the crime of consuming property from another person's crime; and Nguyen Anh Binh, born in 1977 (all 4 defendants reside in Hung Binh ward, Vinh city) to 6 months in prison for the crime of harboring property from another person's crime.

According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy, the defendants' criminal acts were clarified: between March and October 2013, Cuong took advantage of the negligence of 28 families and hotels in Vinh city that did not close the main door or side door on the second or third floor to steal property.

With a bad record, having three previous convictions for theft and illegal possession of drugs, and being a veteran addict, when breaking into the homeowner's house, Cuong took everything, as long as he could sell it to satisfy his addiction. By the time he was arrested, Cuong had appropriated nearly 900 million VND from the victims. When he was arrested, through a search, the authorities seized 0.23 grams of heroin from Cuong.

As for the other defendants, although they knew that Cuong's property was stolen, they still helped Cuong out of greed. Specifically, Mrs. Lai sold her son's property 8 times with a value of more than 150 million VND. Binh was a driver, but when Mrs. Lai asked him to hide 8 car air conditioners so that he could sell them for money when he had customers, Binh agreed. When the authorities proceeded to confiscate them, Binh only declared 3 units, and hid 5 units, hindering the investigation. As for Phong, although he knew that the phones were stolen by Cuong, he still sold them for Cuong, so he was also prosecuted for the above crime.

In court, the defendants confessed honestly and repented for what they had done. Realizing that Cuong and his mother had bad personal records and committed serious crimes, a severe sentence was needed to demonstrate the strictness of the law. Binh and Phong only played a secondary role and committed less serious crimes, so they received lighter sentences. After consideration, the panel sentenced the defendants to the above sentences.
