Regarding the incident of Jetstar Pacific plane landing late due to communication problems with the control tower at Vinh airport on July 23, the Northern Air Traffic Management Company has indefinitely suspended the air traffic controllers who directly operated the flight for review. The head and deputy head of the air traffic control tower at Vinh airport were suspended for 15 days for review of their responsibilities.

In particular, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requested to increase one air traffic controller and four controllers from Noi Bai to Vinh to strengthen the professional training force for controllers here.

According to the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Lai Xuan Thanh, the cause of the loss of communication between the flight crew and the control tower was determined to be due to confusion in the use of the air traffic controller's audio-visual equipment, and poor handling procedures by the air traffic controller, leading to the loss of contact with the flight crew lasting about 3 minutes.

“The investigation team has verified the incident, after reading the cockpit voice recording and the recording at the air traffic control tower, it shows that this was a situation of losing one-way communication, the fault was due to the air traffic controller pressing the wrong radio button, causing an interruption in flight operations. Therefore, the command tower sent out instructions but the aircraft could not receive a signal to confirm the landing order,” said Director Lai Xuan Thanh.

In addition, the head of the Civil Aviation Authority also emphasized that the incident threatened flight safety but was not at a serious level. “The Jetstar Pacific crew handled this situation very well by turning the plane around and re-performing the landing procedure to ensure absolute safety for passengers and flight operations regulations,” the leader of the Civil Aviation Authority assessed.

Earlier, on the evening of July 23, a Jestar Pacific airline plane was preparing to land at Vinh airport, but the flight crew could not contact the control tower at Vinh airport, so it had to circle in the sky a second time and was about 10 minutes late landing. The incident caused anxiety for many passengers on the plane.

Also on June 27, the air traffic control tower gave incorrect flight instructions at Da Nang International Airport, causing a Vietnam Airlines plane to nearly collide with a Jetstar Pacific plane./.

According to the report of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, from 12:00 on July 25 to 12:00 on July 26, out of a total of 436 flights, 84 flights were delayed (accounting for 19.2%), 3 flights were canceled (accounting for 0.68%). The main causes of flight delays were due to the operational factors of airlines accounting for 35.7%, late aircraft arrivals nearly 31% and flight operations 15%.
