Malaysian plane kept sending signals after disappearing

Two sources familiar with the investigation said on March 13 that satellites picked up weak electronic pulses from Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 after it disappeared on March 8.

While the signals provide no information about where the plane was headed or its fate, they do indicate that troubleshooting and maintenance systems were turned on and ready to communicate with satellites.

This suggests that the plane carrying 239 people was at least able to communicate with satellites after losing contact with Malaysian air traffic controllers.

According to sources, the system transmits these signals about once an hour and people have heard 5-6 such signals. However, it is impossible to rely solely on those signals to confirm whether the plane is in the air or on the ground.

The sources added that although troubleshooting systems are still active, no data connections have been opened because the companies involved have not subscribed to a service package with this feature from the satellite operator.
