(Baonghean.vn) - In late May and early June, farmers in Hung Nguyen are concentrating their manpower and resources on harvesting the spring rice crop.
Compared to previous years, this year's spring rice crop is bountiful, yielding a bumper harvest. Farmers are delighted and are accelerating the harvesting process to prepare for the summer-autumn planting season.
This spring, Hung Nguyen district cultivated 5,700 hectares of rice, with high-quality purebred rice accounting for over 60% of the area, hybrid rice varieties such as BTE and Syn6 accounting for nearly 20%, and the remainder being glutinous rice and other purebred rice varieties.
Despite the prolonged cold spell at the beginning of the season, lasting over a month and slowing down plant growth, over 800 hectares of high-quality rice were affected by blast disease during the tillering period. Thanks to timely detection by relevant agencies, the district provided appropriate pesticides, and farmers invested in proper technical procedures, resulting in an average rice yield of 68 quintals/hectare. Hybrid rice varieties achieved over 7 tons, while high-quality varieties yielded over 6.5 tons/hectare. By this time, the entire district has basically completed the spring rice harvest and is vigorously implementing the summer-autumn crop.
