The Academy of Agriculture was formerly the University of Agriculture and Forestry, later Hanoi University of Agriculture.

This morning (June 25), in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's Decision to establish the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture. Attending the ceremony were Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Training, and teachers of the Academy.

Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam sent congratulatory flower baskets.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat presented the Prime Minister's Decision on establishing the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture to the Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture.

The Academy of Agriculture was formerly the University of Agriculture and Forestry, later Hanoi University of Agriculture. After nearly 60 years of operation and development, the school has trained for the country nearly 80,000 university-level staff, more than 5,000 masters and 500 doctors in the fields of research, training and application of science and technology in agriculture.

The school's staff after being trained and working account for more than half of the number of experts and scientists who have been working in the field of agricultural production research. Many have held important positions as members of the Government and Central Ministries and Branches.

According to the Prime Minister's Decision, the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture was established on the basis of reorganizing the Hanoi University of Agriculture. The Academy's headquarters is in Hanoi city. The Vietnam Academy of Agriculture is a public university, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, with legal status, its own seal and account. The Academy operates according to the University Charter issued together with Decision No. 58/2010 of the Prime Minister, and the Regulations on organization and operation issued by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat acknowledged the contributions of the school's teachers to the development of the country's agriculture and rural areas, and stated: Vietnam Academy of Agriculture plays an important role in creating a close connection between human resource training facilities and the task of implementing strategies, development plans and restructuring the agriculture and rural development sector in the coming period.

The Minister hopes that the school will continue to promote the tradition of solidarity, quickly grasp the new policies and guidelines of the Party, the State and the Ministry to have effective operational plans. Training plans need to be reviewed in terms of occupational structure, quantity and quality to more closely meet the requirements of restructuring the agricultural sector in the coming time; research must focus on creating breakthrough technologies and techniques, further promoting the comparative advantages of agriculture, creating products with higher quality, commercial value and competitiveness.

According to the Decision of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Professor - Doctor, Meritorious Teacher Tran Duc Vien was appointed as Director of Vietnam Academy of Agriculture.
